It would be a matter of utmost joy and happiness for the country as well as for its people if the country tops among other countries in any specific field but what if ones country lead the world in open defecation ? We Indians aspire to see our Nation being the superpower in coming years to go but unable to tackle with the very basic problem which is of the sanitation.
70% of the households in India has no access to toilets and which include rural houses and urban slums and out of total population of 1.2 billion of people 60% still defecate in open and which leads to increase in pollution , infections ,diseases in high terms not only this but the situation is much more pathetic for women and girls who become easy victims of being raped in their way to fields.
And out of all the thing which is really shocking is, that according to studies it comes into notice that first sewage and drainage system in world was found in Indus Civilization of India only and also through certain researches it was found that in some of the cities of the same civilization, the people had their personal toilets which clearly shows that those people were really open-minded in their prospect and were not like these generations for whom building up of toilets , actually is not at all a basic necessity.
According to one of the reports of Indian Human Development Report, “In villages approx 2/3rd of the houses has no toilets"The reason being so clear i.e in rural India to make and to do the disposal of excreta is against of their culture and religious norms and above that for males going out for releasing waste is much more wholesome and relieving.
Government after analyzing the problem has done multiple efforts to come up with the required solutions for this issue and have built a huge number of toilets too but it is very unfortunate that still instead of supporting the cause people have renovate the toilets into store room , shops ,cattle keeper room and what not .Not only this but according to one of the surveys released in June 2017 , 40% of household with a working latrine still have at least one person who regularly defecate in the open, which again is a matter of shame and depicts that only toilets formation is not enough rather people’s mentality is also required to be changed by proper awareness.
Why not to take inspiration from the country like Bangladesh who on one hand in every terms is backward to us but still on another hand was able to cut off its rate of open defecation from 19% to 3% in just 2 years which could became possible by focusing fully on sanitation related programs.
Its not just the responsibility of Government rather commoners also need to work over this to eradicate this huge problem from our very country and just by preaching nothing can be achieved rather we have to work together on ground level in required direction to bring the required change
